since when did salmon not come from the sea?

    .

I could make a joke about when it comes from a river but I was just making the point that "seafood" doesn't normally include fish. If the OP wants to do this that's her choice but the difficulty would be knowing where to stop.
  • thanks everyone youve all given me some great ideas (some ive had to google as ive never heard of before :o)

i did consider the m&s £80 platter but i decided to give it a try myself and see if i could come up with something similar/better

my plan is to get it from a wet fish shop, there are a couple in my city so im going t to visit them with a final list of what i want and see if they can comply

    thanks again everyone

you some times get more when you put it together yourself. Shops charge more just for having ready made/put together.
  • that was what put me off the m&s one! it has a 3 tiered (cake?) stand with it, but ive seen a huge platter plate for £10 which i think would be better and easier to store afterwards too

Just an idea - I did this many years ago. I got bowls/dishes/plates of various sizes and used the leftover Blu-tak from Christmas to assemble a sort of pyramid like shape. I then covered it really neatly in cooking foil - to make like a silver mountain. I then put it on a tray to make transportation easy!
I moulded a rim on each level - which meant that I could have a layer of each different seafood item, going around the outside of the pyramid, without having to fill in the central area (saving on amount of each sort of seafood). I then sort of 'iced' the pyramid with fronds of dill and lemon.
It worked really well and made a great centrepiece. Hope this helps.
