Brambles and nettles

I dug a 15m by 4m strip, and another small strip. Nettle roots are surprisingly thick, but they tend to come out easily enough, and they are not that deep. I was surprised how much root had grown in one season. Bramble on the other hand is a pain. It seems to spread by underground runners, and even a small runner can create a new plant. And the runners can be fairly deep, 6 to 12 inches say. Perhaps your best approach is to try and dig out the bramble, then wait until the remains sprout, and then dig those out. Or wait until you can use glyphosate. By the way glyphosate breaks down rapidly as others have said, and I think it breaks down into fertiliser.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

....and I think it breaks down into fertiliser.
Ammonium sulphamate may used as a compost accelerator, and it kills difficult weeds, even inside the EU, if accidentally spilled on them.
;) Oops!;)
