Another sale cancelled after winning

I am getting so fed up of these sellers.I have just had a seller cancel
a sale on me again(4th time in as many months).
This time I won an auction yesterda y for £1.20,I was the 2nd bidder.
I immediately contacted the seller to arrange pick up and payment.
I recieved a message back saying that ai hd had a bargain and could pick up at 12 noon today. The auction ended at 10.15 am yesterday.
I was just on way there and thought I would check the address just to be sure.Lo and behold I had been sent message at 9.20 this morning informing me that they had cancelled the sale.I also had message off ebay saying sale cancelled, reason given sold to someone else.
How is this allowed I wonder.

it is not allowed but you can't force someone to sell. All you can do is leave poor feedback (word it carefully) and low stars where appropriate.

A seller might get away with it once, maybe even twice at a push but once buyers start to see a neg mentioning seller refuses to sell then I doubt they will be able to sell much more on ebay.

It's 'allowed' mostly because eBay don't control everything a seller does, particularly once the auction has ended and their direct supervision ends. It's a big flaw in a site where people are allowed to speculate, and it got worse when private sellers were allowed to list 99p items for free.

Use the tools available to you - negative feedback, non-performing seller report, low DSRs and decline the cancellation requests.

What I would also do is perhaps avoid either very new sellers (who don't perhaps know it's not allowed) or items which are obviously too good to be started at 99p. Sometimes the bargain is just a false economy - and although I know people shouldn't do this, they do, so avoidance is often a good idea.

I find I would prefer to buy at a reasonably appropriate price as a BIN than gamble on a 99p auction being honoured.

We have all seen items go at ridiculously low prices. But its just an experience you learn from. Decent people honour the sale.

Had loads cancelled myself - i always leave a neg.
  • Can a seller cancel a sale? Or am I taking that to literally?

Op says they have had an email from eBay 'saying sale cancelled, reason given sold to someone else'.

No they can't cancel a sale once auction is over, but they can refuse to sell.

***** recently opened a case to cancel a transaction for an item you
    recently purchased:

Reason for request to cancel the transaction: The seller sold the item to
    another buyer.
Thia was the message from ebay

That's called a mutual and seller is trying to recover the fees by getting you to agree to cancel the sale.

You need to deny the mutual and state you do not agree/ or that you do still want the item.

You remain able to leave appropriate feedback.

  • Phone ebay's customer services and tell them about it. You can't force someone to sell, but eBay can and will warn or even ban a seller who uses that tactic a lot.
Telling eBay about it also means that if you leave negative feedback (that doesn't contravene their rules on what's acceptable to put in feedback - so no name-calling, swearing or mentioning eBay customer services) it's less likely to be removed at the seller's request, and if they open an unpaid item dispute the strike should be removed from your account afterwards.
