Why not? Section 75 (if you qualify*) covers consequential costs/losses, so simply put the cost on the credit card.

If your claim is upheld, the card provider will have to reimburse this cost as well as the cost of the software.

    * Over £100 but less than £30K, and through a pre-existing D-C-S relationship.

Op has never quoted a amount of the software. So Section 75 may not be avaiable.
Also natwest would if avaiable do a chargeback.

OP has also never mentioned the what the software is so we could look at what it claims.
Also it maybe the OP's DVD player that is the issue and not the software. Or even the burning software that is not creating the correct disk format.

I would suggest that any disks created are tried in a few players.

Software's support admitted that vob files recorded directly on a dvd will not be playable. I tested dvd on a few computers and a standalone player.
Never mind, I will put the cost down to experience with natwest (already stopped banking with them, now will cancel cc as well).

Could always leave the in an AVI container, most DVD players support DiVX these days.

Or use IFOEDIT as suggested, allows the (re) construction of .IFO file as mentioned.

The software creates .vob files, the .ifo just tells the player the structure of the menu and play sequences.

Your issue, if any, is with the software developer not Natwest.

The software is supposed to create *.vob files out of video files. Vob file is a container format for a dvd movie. I wanted to swap original vob file from a dvd for my vob file. Unfortunately, vob files created by the software are incomplete because they are missing corresponding *.ifo files and cannot be played by a dvd player.

Not all DVD players require a .IFO file, and .VOB files can be played by PCs, some media players, and even hand held devices. They are essentially just a container for a video or audio stream in the same way as a VRO or EVO is (or more generic ones like AVI).

There is software that can create .IFOs, which, if you combine it with this software, may do what you want.

Not just natwest. Any other bank/card provider will have had the same answer....

They are not going to roll over and give you your money back without proof.

Remember when a chargeback is actioned. It is like going to court. Your bank is your legal support and the retailer has their merchant back as their legal team. Visa/Mastercard sit in the middle and reach their decision, based on the FACTS provided by both parties.
And it all boils down to who has the best case.

That's the tricky part. Vob files' sole purpose is to be played by dvd players, that their description from wikipedia.

Wikipedia contains some good information and some bad.

I don't even own an ordinary DVD player, but I can play .vob files on my PC using VideoLAN, so they have other uses too.

I think this is simply a case of the software not living up to your expectations. :(
