Has anyone ever sold and moved next door?

Seems a crazy thing to do but we are seriously considering it! We are in the middle and the property next door is on the end. It needs work and if we were to put some money into it it would be worth a lot more. Our current house is really nice and we could certainly sell for a good price.
Anyone ever done it? Is it completely crazy?

My parents did this when I was little! It was from a 2 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house of a different style and age - so not really relevant to your query.
Saved money on removal costs - my Dad removed a fence panal and he and my uncle carried everything out of one back door into the other.
The cats and the postman were confused for a while!
Advantages being, you know the area and what you're getting and how the place has been looked after.
Don't think I've been very helpful

We were at the last stage of buying the house next door a few years ago planning to knock them together and make a bigger house when it all went pear shaped. We did however buy this house which is on the same road as the previous one but about half a mile up the road.
If you prefer an end house then provided the sums add up go for it.0 -
I don't think it's crazy if next door is a bigger/better house and you can afford it. Plus, you can choose your new neighbours when you sell!0

It seems to make perfect sense to buy a house close to where you are when you know the neighbours, the schools etc and you know you like it! If it happens to be next door, so be it.Stercus accidit0

My parents sold one house and moved directly over the road.
The houses were different tho one was a standard 2 bed semi the other was a 4 floored massive edwardian( I think) house which had cellars, a huge garden a sun room and the lot. Did need complete refurb tho! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -
My parents also moved next door, to the other side of the semi.
The other side was owned by my Aunt, so they bought off her when she re-married and moved. They moved from a 3 bed to a 2 bed, but with a much bigger garden. Just the two of them so plenty of space.
We had one big garden so they put a fence up once they'd moved.
They actually sold their old house to my cousin! Keep it in the family!

relatives of mine did this also to move to an end terrace from mid terrace. The end terrace walled back garden ran alongside a lane and they built a double garage in the back garden opening onto this lane - a double garage in that location is worth upwards of 80K !
edit:
Just remembered I also have moved next door in the past - to a bigger flat with it's own main entrance..0 -
Thanks for all the replies, it seems I have lost my marbles then!0
