Can I Recover Cost of Unused Flights From Mastercard?

Recently I purchased 4 seats (on behalf of myself, my wife, and two friends) on Monarch Airline using my Mastercard. Before I was able to purchase travel insurance, my wife broke her ankle and had to undertake an operation. We were optimistic that she would be allowed to take the flight since it is now over two months since the accident occured. The surgeon we saw this week recommended that my wife should not take the 4 hour flight in December because of the high risk of associated DVT. Does anybody know whether I would be able to claim the cost (or part of) from Mastercard for the flights that my wife and I are are now unable to use?

Not a chance, unless they offer a separate insurance product as a benefit of being a cardholder.

Unfortunately the lesson to learn is to sort out travel insurance before booking the travel.
Do you have a fee paying current account? Or one of those expensive Sainsburys / M&S credit cards with travel insurance included?0 -

Really? In the 5 minutes it would take to buy travel insurance your wife broke her ankle? That's very unlucky, if you have bad luck like that a lot perhaps you should consider buying the insurance before you book your flights.0 -

Dalesrider is correct. You are totally reliant on the goodwill of the airline. Approach them in a concerned way to explain the position and with any luck you may get a refund. But don't bank on it.0
