Going BR this morning

Well after months of undecision, worry, lack of sleep, and constant phone calls from creditors, life as I have known it will change at 10.30 this morning.
I am a nervous wreck and can't stop shaking.
I moved out of my own property 2 weeks ago and now live in a rented house, today will be the end of a horrid 6 year battle with debt.
I feel very ashamed and fear I will trip myself up by giving incorrect information in my current state of mind!
Anyway, too late to back out now, onwards and upwards, can't wait for the day to end.
Can anyone advise what documents I need to take with me, ie do I need proof of debts/ID/bank statements etc.
Many thanks to everyone on this site.

Good luck for today. It's honestly not a bad experience in hindsight.
Documents? Just the forms and the fees.
ID? Maybe? I can't recall being asked, but would be wise to take some. But only something like drivers licence/passport etc. No need to hunt out birth certificates or similar.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi Churchill33,
All you will need are your BR forms and the fees.
The clerk at the court will briefly check the details send the details to the judge who will declare the BR - you probably won't even meet the judge.
Well done for getting this far - the decision to go BR is by far the hardest part and look on the rest as a process that has to be completed.
Please try not to worry - no-one is trying to trip you up with questions, as long as you are honest there won't be a problem. Just remember that they have seen it all before and many have been in a much worse position than you."Whether you think you can, or you think you can't -- you're right" - Henry Ford0 -
Good luck for today (although you will not need it):):pB&SC No. 298

Thanks everyone
Fear of the unknown is usually worse than the event itself, still doesn't stop me from shaking like a leaf though!0 -
Hi Churchill33, my new life began 10th Sept at 9.58am. iremember feeling just as you do before and on the way to court, i went on my own and entered the court house visibly shaking. The receptionist had to take me to the right room, she was very helpful and plesant. As soon as the clerk called me to check the form the shakes disappeared. There wasnt any point i was made to feel little it was just as if i was paying a bill in the bank. She asked if i would like to sit in the waiting room or go to the cafe for a coffee while she went to see the judge. 30 mins later she was back and that was it, over and done with. When i walked out of the courthouse i could have shouted, screamed, but thought better of it i went for a big piece of chocolate cake instead, but what i did feel was the enormous weight lift of my shoulders, it was and still is the best best feeling. I know whatever we say you will still be nervous but remember we have all said its not a bad process, we cant all be wrong can we?
Hold your head up, come back and tell us we were right lol

Good morning Churchill! You will be fine, it's natural to be nervous but I've never heard of the BR day being anything other than so much easier than everyone ever dreamed it would be so here's fully expecting you to post later saying the same. Thinking of you xx

Good luck today!
You'll feel so much better after 10:30am...the process isn't really as bad as some people think.0 -
Hi Churchill33 - I see you have been up since the crack of dawn. Me too - I have just returned from the court as my hearing was at 0930 and like you I felt dreadful. Now I just feel a mixture of sadness and numbness. The jumping for joy has not materialised, neither has the weight being lifted - just sadness and numbness.
I keep looking at my stamped document and to be honest, I can't see that a piece of paper has that much power - but then I imagine it must be a bit like receiving a decree absolute for a divorce - the legal bit is done but the emotions have to catch up. After all, you say you struggled with debt for years so it stands to reason that it will take some time before the pain goes. bit like toothache really!
I am going to have a cup of tea and a cry I think - and sod's law - today is the only day that I have no messages from creditors on my phone and it is not ringing off the hook; usually by this time I have been inundated!
Onward & upward
