    I've been Money Tipped!
great recipe in the waitrose mag last weekend - mincemeat & cranberry filling yum!!

So I'll stick to the good old CO-OP, handy as it's only along the road from me!

    thanks all!!

I don't like shop bought mince pies - the pastry is too sweet for me,

My mum gets some blocks of shortcrust pastry, gets some cheap mincemeat and add a drop of brandy in the pot.

Asda have their own ones at £1 for 6 which seems pricey, but they have big packs of 12 for £1.50. Thought they taste just fine - I have been trialling them ahead of Christmas.

These are the ones I prefer.

Yes a little more expensive than the 6 for 60p at Morrisons, but I've not seen those and suspect they may be the shallow fill ones i.e. 2 slices of pastry sandwiching the thinest spread of mincemeat possible.

The Asda ones are definitely the deep fill mince pies, and what I particularly like are they are the traditional shop sold design i.e. where the pastry lid of the pie fits within the walled base.
(maybe Lyons still make them this way too if you can find any perhaps in a smaller or independent shop)

Mr Kipling, along with many other own branded shop minces pies, now use a much larger pastry lid covering the whole top of the pie (including the wall of the base). This, to my taste, is less appealing as it results in a higher pastry to mincemeat ratio.

I'm struggling to find anyone other than Asda (or as I said perhaps Lyons) who have not currently adopted the later style ... but I fear this could be the last year. Even Aldi have this newer 'Mr Kipling' style mince pie this year. :(
