Cat pooing in the house.

Hi,
We have a 3-4 year old cat, and recently she's started weeing & pooing in the house. At first it was weeing in my daughter's room ( she left for uni in Sept, and babies the cat, so we guessed she was missing my daughter). Since then she has moved on to poo in odd places, like in the bath overnight, on the stairs, landing, and I don't know what to do to make her stop.
I realise she's probably feeling a bit lost, as she sits outside my daughter's door ( I keep it closed now) most of the day. Despite lots of loving cuddles from us, and having a cat flap she even pooed on the bath mat just after I got in from work yesterday and had fed her, instead of using the flap she went in the bathroom :(
Any ideas what I can do?
Thank you!
:o:o:o

I would move her litter tray to the place or room she is pooping in.

Have you got a jumper or piece of soft clothing that smells of your daughter? Maybe kitty will get some comfort from snuggling up to it.

Poor kitty is obviously a bit distressed and upset, shame they can't speak English so they would understand our soothing them. Hope she is back to her little self soon.

when my little boy was ill and stressed out about it (understandably so, he did not like having a catheter! lol) he pooped in my bedroom, which was totally unlike him. when i googled it, i read somewhere that if cats are distressed and unsure of their territory they'll poop as a way of marking as poop smells stronger and will usually do it somewhere there's 'heavy traffic'- ie not hidden away in a corner, so stairs, landing and bathroom make sense.

maybe work on trying to destress the poor love? have you tried feliway? maybe a plug in near your daughter's door where the cat sits? x x

Do you actually have a litter tray? You refer to the flap which makes me think she has previously only gone outside. It could be the case that there is something scaring her outside, e.g. another cat has moved onto her territory. This happened to our cat, who had previously only ever gone outside to the toilet. She started pooing by the front door. We got her a litter tray which she has happily used since.
  • We have a timid cat and a cat flap . If there's been any work going on in the house or there's been a stray in the garden , she's had a poo in the house . She doesn't normally do this, just in stressfull situations for her . Hope your cat is soon ok again .

Would it be possible to let her into your daughters room? Might make her feel a bit happier

Take her to the vet for a check up because there is a change it is not behavioural/ stress related, use a Feliway diffuser on each floor, clean any accidents up with an enzyme based product.
