Nex 7 AV protection required?

Is any form of AV needed on a Nexus 7?

If yes any recommendations?

I've stuck avast on mine. Android malware is growing rapidly. Nexus 7 is at a slightly lower risk than a non-google device as it can get updated with less issues, but it's still a risk.

No, it's not needed. There are very few "viruses" for Android, most of which are prevalent in Japan where the mobile market is different than in the west.

Google also filter all apps available on Google Play, so as long as you download from there, you can be confident there are no risks.

The only people really making a big deal out of viruses for Android are the virus scanner companies who have something to benefit from it.
