thinking of replacing an old kitchen. went to homebase n wickes. which i should choose or i should get a design from them (3d)n go to some local joiner ( there are people who gets designs n brings everything with them n fits as well).
second how much should i look for?im looking for 12 unit kicthen , laminated worktop plus usual sink plus laminated doors (no wall tiles floor tiles lighting), want built in appliances A rated (fridge freezer hob dishwasher chimney washing machine oven) plus 1 or 2 pull out larder n n basket type fancy units. so overall neither v cheap nor very high.....just medium brand. plus cost of fitter as well......

It's as cheap or expensive as you want it. You can price up the units yourself from one of the home improvement stores. You could even buy all the parts yourself and DIY most of it with some help when needed for the bits that are beyond you. A fitter would charge somewhere around £20-£30 an hour. It would take less than an hour to install each unit including putting the doors and handles on. Takes another few hours to install the worktop and appliances. I'd guess at 3 days work. Maybe £600....plus VAT. You can save money by ripping out the kitchen yourself it's all just screwed together should be easy enough.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • cheap to expensive. Were having similar but without the washing machine or fridge freezer - though were having granite tops and floor tiles. B&Q for us would be around £12k with wooden tops - or just over £11k with laminate. Independent (designing, source and build) inc paint and some other little bits and bobs (replacement radiator, re-routing some plumbing) is £12k. Our appliances are on the expensive side though - £1k for the oven, £600 for induction hob etc

I we didnt re-do the floor, didnt have the bits, had laminate and cheaper appliances we could get it down to £8k ish from a shed. Sourcing and doing all the work (bar electrics and plumbing) as well could reduce it further to around £4-5k.
  • Go to B&Q, wickes etc and get some quotes , They will provide a printed layout for you and you are under no obligation to buy. Maybe wait until the New Year sales for further discounts. When you have a design you like take your layout to 3 good Joiners and ask for a quote to install.

Ive just had a Wickes kitchen fitted (Glenco) and I am very very pleased with it. In my opinion the units are the best out of the DIY sheds (after alot of investigating). It cost me £4k

    2 x 900 draws
    1 x 150 pullout
    1 x double oven housing
    1 x 800 base unit
1 x 300 base unit (bought pullout inners from Benchmarx)
1 x 400 base unit with internal draws.
    2 x 500 wall units
    1 x corner wall unit.
    3 x 1000 base units
Various plinths, cornices and high gloss end panels(most expensive bits)

I sourced the laminate worktops locally as I needed 4 m lengths (wickes dont do them this long). Appliances I sourced locally and got alot of them to price match the internet. My own builders fitted the kitchen. My only advice is to double check the kitchen plan as Wickes mismeasured and I couldnt fit all the units in and this has spoilt the "balance" of the kitchen. Also get your kitchen fitter to have alook at the display kitchen you are buying as cornices and plinths are cut/fitted differently for each kitchen. Hope this helps.

    Magnet - 5 wall units
    5 base units
    tall fridge freezer housing unit
    washer and dishwasher housing units
    laminate worktops
    black composite sink
    built under oven
    gas hob
    cooker hood
    fridge freezer
    dishwasher
    washer/dryer

£11000, doesn't include fitting, electrics, tiling (£600 extra) or new floor £250 extra.

Depends which kitchen you choose, i'm sure i could have got it cheaper but i got the one i wanted !
