Go to all apps scroll down to W for Wifi Hotspot , push it portable wifi hotspot , give it a SSID eg grizzly
Security wpa2 or wpa tkip give it a password etc.
Put same password in the other laptop/tablet etc, when trying to connect voila simples.

Edited: BUT as I said on post #2 watch your data usage if you are not on unlimited(Happily I am on £5 / month unlimited :D (No it is no longer available)

Do I presume this would use more data than simply using the phone itself?

More than likely yes, especially if the "tethered" device wants to use wifi to download updates etc. you would have to tie down the use of the device for it's own "apps" which is not really practical eg if I use my netbook in "tethered" mode I would need to stop it accepting Windows / Linux updates , checking my 12 email addresses etc , which of course you would then need to switch them back on when you are using your home WiFi or a free public hotspot. Just be aware that a non cellular device (2G/3G/4G) does not normally have the easy way of only download when using wifi since your tablet is only Wifi and it doesn't know that you have a capped download limit.

if your pc/laptop/netbook etc has a wifi card, then you can also use http://www.mhotspot.com/
  • Its worth noting that not all price plans have tethering included. When I was on Orange tethering was not included on any of their plans and the costs to include it were quite punitive - I ended up leaving because of this.

If you get 750MB please don't even start - that is a teensy amount of data. First thing the tablet will do is update all the apps, that can easily wipe 100MB or more off your 750MB without even trying. Then every advert which is served whilst in-app or any in-app data will keep on caning your allowance.

At best, you'll run out quickly and have none left for the rest of the month, at worst you'll be charged one of the terrible data overage rates some networks charge per MB. And if your contract is non-tethering, that'll be the rate you pay from the first MB, not after the 750...

Yes, it is very doable, I do it all the time with my Android phone and Nexus tablet - but I have a much better data plan to allow for that

Thanks for this, I wasn't going to use it to be updating apps or even transferring files. It was more so for when I was out and about and I just wanted the bigger screen for some general browsing on the train etc.
