I have quite willingly looked after cats for people whilst they recover from injury, but only because the owner has been unable to learn how to empty a cats bladder, or is unable to give it injections every day etc.
The reason that the OP has passed Jack on is nothing to do with money as is clearly staed in her post. If she had no been able to copew with a particular proceedure that Jack now needs, or if he was too heavy for her to lift and he needed lifting (like a dog might) then I would have been sympatheic. As it is, I think the OPs reasons are not justifiable and I hope are not an accurate reflection of her personality.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. I remember how I was worried about having to lift Zara after her surgery when I was just few weeks after my own surgery but... managed to do that.
I really hope that what OP wrote was perhaps some unfortunate choice of words.. I can not really believe someone would find their won family pet's ilness too upsetting to watch to bring that pet back home.0 -
One thing that really annoys me is when people feel justified to judge other people and their situations. We have no idea what the OP has to deal with at home. She may have a sick relative that she has to look after, she may have commitments. In fact she doesn't even need to justify why she has made choices she has and clearly the guinea pig is with an expert that will help him. Is that not what we should be focusing on?
If she finds it uncomfortable to allow him to stay at home then that is her choice and perfectly fine. You cannot force someone to be in a situation they don't want to be in if they don't have to be in that situation!
Having said all this, I hope the piggy recovers and is back to his normal self soon. I hope you will be able to take him back to your home, and don't get put off by comments on here.0 -
It was the OP who chose to give her reason.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.0

Pawsies - so if someone's dog/cat has an accident, perhaps had a leg amputated and the owner does not want it back home as this would upset her/him and the kids.. that is ok?0

ok, poor choice of words as lots of people are slating me for what i posted before.Money has played a part in this but that is not the reason why we have got someone who volunteered to help Jack, is looking after him for us. We do not have the facilities or knowledge to care for him and it was not an easy decision to make, to have Jack elsewhere. He is not "being pushed into someone else's care because seeing him is too upsetting" The lady who is looking after Jack has got the knowledge to care for Jack.
I did not mean to offend anyone, we do love Jack (some may find it hard to believe) and hope we can have him back and he can live with his dominant cage mate again but for now, Jack is better away from Cuddles and won't be mounted by him and with someone who can see to his needs better than we can.0 -

The attitude of the OP upsets me though , yes - I used to have Guinea Pigs too, they are lovely intelligent creatures.
Pigs rock
The OP did come on here for help though and I wouldn't advocate dumping an animal just because it becomes a problem.....but I'm not sure that is the case. He has been taken care of,she sought help........I guess we don't really know the circumstances and I often word things badly on here and people get the wrong end of the stick.
He is better with someone who knows pigs at the moment though and to be fair if he is with another one that bullies him they shouldn't really be together full stop.
OP is the other piggy male too??.....it may be clash of the sexes/personality and they should be kept seperate if you do get him back....it does happen where they just don't get along.
Whatever the reasons for him being where he is I hope he recovers , bit worrying though if the vet not sure why he's like this though, poor little thing.
Slightly off topic GR I can remembber a thread about you having an op and tara ...........I have no idea how you did it. I found it hard lifting and carrying a norwich terrier after mine and put my own back out in the process.........a GSH???..........respect:)Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
