Infuriating Window Quotation!!!!

 Got a quote for upvc double glazing units after an initial measure up. We were v.happy with the 'written quote' and rang the company to go ahead and fit our windows. He came out a second time to go over things and to make sure everything was o.k before fitting, which it was. He checked the quote he gave us and said he'd made a mistake, the quote was £500 short of the figure he meant to charge and said he was v. sorry and that he'd made a mistake. He left the house and now we're stuck as to what to do. Do we have any rights as a consumer. i.e If it's advertised at that price the company must honour it??

Do we have any rights as a consumer and what are they??

Yes you have rights under the Common Sense Act of 2012. If the updated, higher quote is still the most competitive and you are happy that they will do a satisfactory job then give them the go ahead. If you aren't happy, then don't use them...

Are you entitled to compensation? No you aren't.

Yes, you have the right to say no and get a price from someone else. Or to say yes, I understand that sometimes mistakes happen, so I'd like to go ahead with you...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

if someone can't work the price out of the costs ,can you have faith that they can actually do the job ,
windows can only cost x amount once you know the size then the cost is easy to work out , unless you run in to unforeseen circumstances in the actual fitting .
get another quote from a local company and see how that compares

Did you sign an agreement at the original price quoted? If so, you can hold them to it.

ask them to meet half way as your budget is now set, say £250 or you will look elsewhere for a price nearer your budget.
