Motor insurance premiums could be set to rise for drivers who live in an area which is home to an Olympic Cyclist, Kay Iddon of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) suggested today.
"I have spoken to several of our members today, and the accidents involving Bradley Wiggins and Shane Sutton seems to have opened their eyes to the amount of time our Olympic cyclists spend training on public roads."
Ms Iddon explained: "Several underwriting managers have suggested that they may have to take into account whether a high profile cyclist lives in the area when pricing motor insurance products, because of the potential for huge claims for loss of earnings following a serious accident."
Wow! Is this a new low from these scoundrels?!

"Several underwriting managers" my !!!!!
This stuff is not even on the radar. Given the distances cycled by these athletes in training (usually on quiet country roads for obvious reasons), linking this to risks at the level of specific postcode sectors or districts would be nigh on impossible.0 -
Even Olympic cyclists are generally not very high earners. Radical idea I know, but how about motorists looking out for cyclists and trying not to hit them?0
