ok so my husband attended his atos medical today i went with him.
Basically to cut it short she asked (the nurse ) lots of questions typed alot asked to show medication etc , my husband got all stressed to which he ended up breaking down in tears , so i told him to calm down she then said "at this stage iwould normally ask you to do some tasks ? but i can see your already stressed so i wont bother " i said if you just give him a moment to compose himself , she then said sorry i will need you to leave now and i will finish my report and you will hear from the dwp in due course " was in there approx 35 mins basically i felt as though she didnt believe a word he said !!!
Is this a normal ATOS medical ?

Hard to comment really... similar is reported yes...and what you generally report is the norm... but the consequences could range in between extremes... from he was already found to have sufficient disability to make recommendations to he was uncooperative.
I think what you need to do is what all should do in your situation... request copy of the resulting report which will almost certainly determine the DWP decision which could take months to be formally taken. So on monday call the DWP (number at top of DWP ESA letter) and ask for a copy of the ESA85 ATOS medical report. When you get that back we can advise further."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -
If medical was cut short - it is not necessarily bad news. Mine was too, but for different reasons. In my case I am ill with an incurable that causes severe weakness and she cut mine short as she could see how exhausted I was - just as this nurse could see how distressed your OH was by it all. I would say wait and see. Once you have decision and it might be support group as he cannot cope real well in social meets etc one of the descriptors for support group 12 or 13 I think it is. Give it 2-3 weeks and see what happens. Let us know the outcome and if you need more help.0

Sounds pretty run of the mill to me. However if he fails to get the 15 points you'd have good grounds to appeal as some of the questions they need to ask and you need to answer did not happen. Therefore I think it likely he had achieved the 15 points minimum needed to qualify for ESA. Ask for the ESA85 within the next few days and you will see what was written."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

mine didnt last that long.
phone and ask for a copy of the report, but to be honest, it seems like she had seen and heard everything she needed to in order to make her recommendation.
all you can do for now is wait.

I had something similar yesterday when I took my mother in law to her medical.
Honestly throughout the medical with a dr that I was certain didn't believe us both (he was also in a foul mood because he was running over an hour and half late), so much so I insisted he watched a video off my mobile of her fits/blackouts. He continued questioning us and kept asking the mil if she had any signs that pointed to her having these attacks which she repeatedly told him no.
The next minute he stops and says he won't take it any further as its obvious to him that not only is she not employable but she would be unsafe working and a threat to health and safety if she was working and he would put this in his report.
As he's saying this she decides to take a fit/blackout which took about 20 mins to come round from making him even more late. I don't think he was too happy but he did say firstly that we should push to see a specialist as he thought they were severe enough and that the reason he was asking about the signs was that he could see her eyes flickering/not focusing which was telling him she was about to have one of the turns and that it was obvious to him they came on without her knowing.
Let's see what the dwp say though!0 -

As above.. would strongly advise you get hold of the ESA85 ASAP... it should be informative...sounds like loss of consciousness descriptor will be stated as applying... I'd take a punt at the most serious one scoring 15 points for WRAG. But they may also use the special circumstance descriptor relating to posing a substantial risk to anyone if found capable of work (possibly plus work related activity - support group). The DWP could take months to actually act on the advice in the report and take a decision."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -
It is guidance that if they feel they should recommend you are eligible for the support group, that they leave the room, and consult with a supervisor.
This is not to say that that's what's occurred in this case, but it's one reason for them interrupting the interview.0 -
my medical lasted 12 mins. cut short told to go home and get some rest and meds into my system as i was turning blue.0

she then said "at this stage iwould normally ask you to do some tasks ? but i can see your already stressed so i wont bother "
My son had a dizzy spell and almost fell over so the nurse told him to sit down and not do the tasks. That was fine until he received the copy of her report where she described him doing the tasks without any problems.0 -

In addition to writing to the DWP about this, have you made an official complaint to ATOS, and perhaps the nurses professional body?0
