Google Compare Car Insurance ID Leaks

I'm a bit new to this but I've been sent an article about a massive ID leak on Google Compare's new car insurance thing.

I'm new so I can't post links but if you do a search (on google lol) for Google Compare it's the top news story on The Register about "Gaping hole in Google service...."

I used it to get a quote about 2 months ago and thought the site was decent and easy enough to use (compared to some of the other horrid ones) but this looks a bit dodgy now, especially considering the trouble Google has got itself into with data in the past.

Has anyone else used them recently?

I get mountains of phishing emails and spam to an email address used exclusively for Confused.com. Given someone some how has passed that email address to fraudsters who knows what other details they passed along with them.

I think there is an inherent risk in ever giving your details to a company that then "has to" pass them on to a couple of hundred others as the ability to trace whos doing what with what is always going to be about nil.

To be accurate though.... it is NOT google/ go compare that is the issue but the software from SSP that the insurer/ broker is running. The Go Compare interface simply allows you to expose the SSP's low security

A clean e-mail account I used for years is now ruined by spam after I gave it to confused.com. Immediately after visiting their site to buy house insurance I started getting 50-70 spams a day from PPI, gambling, insurance etc idiots. Do any of these scumbag morons actually think anybody will sit and read their piles of crap? Most of it comes from other companies but there is no doubt that confused.com passed on my e-mail address without my permission (I clicked/unclicked all the relevant boxes at the start). I would strongly advise staying well away from the unprincipled degenerates called confused.com unless you want to start looking like the wee hairy freak on their TV adverts. At least give a false/temporary e-mail address.
