I have three vehicles all insured with different companies.

Do I really need to take out legal protection insurance seperately for each vehicle or would one of the policies cover me for all three?

I don't really undestand why I have to pay 3 times for the same insurance cover.

Well you don't have to take it at all it's a matter of choice.
You need to read the policies but often they insure one vehicle only.

Because the policies you have bought (probably) only cover one vehicle.

You could try this company which I believe will let you have only one car insurance policy for up to 4 vehicles.

I have my bike insurance with their sister company but have never made a claim (but a friend of mine has).
I know a lot of people who have their bike insurance with the sister company and I've never heard and complaints but obviously you should fo your own research.
