Where can I get an EON pre-pay key locally in London?

Hello everyone, Property about to move into has had a EON pre-pay meter fitted but there is no key. More worried about the alarm losing electric more than anything. Is there a page showing where these keys can be collected from? Been on the phone with EON for 3 days. Tried to register with them - asked for a fax confirmation of ownership. Sent that then told that would need processing for 6 hours and to call later (eventhough told they would simply pick it up if I called back). Called the next day to be safe - claim they didn't get the fax. Asked who I spoke to, that they should have given their name as a reference to put on the fax - they hadn't. After a good 30 mins told to call a different number - The Warrants section. Held on line again and finally gave up. Each time calling EON there's a 15 min wait.

Call them as it's essential they set up a new account for you :)

    As above, keep calling them.
The key needs to be programmed with your details so they need to give you a 8 digit code.

    Hi Spoogle

Really sorry for the long call waiting times.

Sound like we're asking for a tenancy agreement to confirm change of responsibility. In these cases, it's possible there's a debt on the meter from the previous occupant.

It's even possible the prepayment meter was installed under a warrant.

If this is the case, we'll need to be certain the change of responsibility is correct before wiping the debt off the meter.

Wywth and SwanJon are spot on. We need to set up a new account for you and issue a number.

Once done, you'll need to go to a shop that holds stocks of keys and give them this number. We'll tell you where the nearest shop to you is.

The key will be programmed using this number and ready to insert in the meter.

Once inserted, it will clear the previous settings including any debt that may be on the meter. When this has been done, you'll be able to go back to the shop and top up.

If you're not able to go straight back to the shop, there's an amount of Emergency Credit on the meter that can be used to keep the electric on for a time.

The Emergency Credit will need to be paid back once you top up though. Therefore, if you do use this facility, it's best to up a bit more so as the amount taken back to cover the Emergency Credit doesn't wipe out the amount topped up.

Hope this is useful Spoogle. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

  • Hi Malc,

I got through and was provided with a Tag code. Went and got that sorted. The lady I spoke to did tell me it would have a pound on it but when I inserted it, it just said all zeros under the 'accepted' title. I'm not fussed over a pound just want to make sure it didn't need need that pound to refresh. I'll pop back later to get some credit and see what happens.

    Thanks Everyone!
