Refused by Santander

I've never had a problem getting credit cards but just got refused by Santander 123. I've no idea why as my credit should be fine and now I'm concerned that this will now affect my future credit rating. What is my best course of action? Should I appeal it, should I use something like experian to check the status of my credit? Any contructive comments?

Check your credit reports and see what's on there.

Ok done that and it shows as fair. It was good but has dropped due to getting some extra credit recently. Still not sure why I should get refused though.

Checking your credit reports won't affect your credit rating, But what is on your credit reports will determine whether lenders want to lend to you or not.

Having too much credit can affect it. You said you recently got more credit so I would suggest that could be the problem.

People with an excellent credit report can be refused. Sometimes your just not the right kind of customer they are looking for. If you really want that card, wait 6 months and try again, otherwise, look elsewhere, but try and only apply for another 1 or 2 this side of xmas.
