Wonder if anyone can help me
PLEASE
Have had an account with Barclays for over 10 years they kept increasing my overdraft it was put up to £800.00 in 1998 and then i cut up all cards and cheque books and have never agaun used it. But i am still trying to pay this money off and because of interest have only managed to pay off £100.00 in nearly nine years i am on low income and dont have a lot of spare cash. i was informed by the bank that they could ask for all the money to be repaid in one go! is there not a rule that would make this money able to be written off in some way as i must have paid over what i owe in interest by now!!!!
Any help or advice is very very welcome
Thanks
Kimbo

Is this your only account?
How much do you pay in every week or month?0 -
not my only account i try to pay in around £30 a month0
-
Have you missed any payments , are there any charges other than interest on your statements?
If you have without fail paid £30 (every month) into the account for the last 10 years and honestly have not used the account for any other purpose there is no way the original balance was merely £800!0 -
£30 x 12 = £360.00
£360.00 x 10 = £3600.00
I think you should have paid it off by now, + the interest,

sorry i think i may have confused lots of people
I have paid into the account when i have been able to afford it and this is regular payment each month but not in past been £30.00 that is what i am paying at present time which is a squeeze of funds but hey ho!!!! sometimes has only been a few quid over the interest but is a bit like credit cards u know when they actually dont really give you the opportunity to pay in some without adding a load of interest you know sometimes when they dont add the interest charges on for say 6months to try to get yourself a little sorted
so i suppose i am really enquiring if any1 knows if you have had an account that u dont use at all have no cards cheque books etc for over 8years only pay money in over net if there is some way of getting the bank to write the amount off or write some of it off for you as i feel i am never going to be able to afford to put enough in to pay the account off.
I know it is my own fault and have never ever done it again so i did learn from it !!!!!!!!!0 -
If any of the charges have been 'unauthorised' because either you did not pay in on time or not at all you may be able to claim these back for the last 6 years.
Do you have copy statements going back for this period? or if not ask your bank to send them to you to apply for a refund.
There are templates of how to word these letters on this site.0 -
thanks for advice i dont think am going to get any money back because it is only interest charges and all the things that made me increase the overdraft were done over 8years ago. but thank you for your advice and time0
