Just got my self a new van,,well 57 plate,, i got the van 10 days ago,,, so did a search on moneysupermarket for insurance,, the first question it asks is do you know the reg i did so i put it in,,, it came up with details for my van,, which looked correct,,every thing looked exact the only thing which i noticed it stated the exact engine size as 1866cc i thought the van was a 2 liter so more like 1995cc ,, but you do not have the v5 any more only the green slip from it which had no exact size printed on it,,,so i chose a insurance provider and again put the reg in,,, it came back exactly the same as moneysupermarket had,, so as i was not that certain i looked in auto trader got a few registrations same year as my van and later and tried these they all stated that they were 2 liters but appears as 1866cc not 1995cc,,,, i now have the v5 back from dvla and it states its 1995cc is this important to point out to the insurance co just leave it???? there as never been any modifications on my van and the fact ive tried 3 other van regs suggests that the details that are issued very slightly incorrect,,, they must have hundreds of incorrect vans on there books as its a very small detail that very few would notice,, what next??

You do need to correct this.
It is your responsibility.0 -
There maybe lots of vans out there that are wrong,
But i presume you won't care if their insurer don't payout or reduce the claim or increase the premium later because of their mistakes.
I guess you will care if your dont payout or suddenly double the premium because of this error.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
phoned them to change the details they tell me theres no such van there computer is correct and put the phone down on me,,, there must be 100,000 vans exactly like mine what do i do now0

Just write to them putting it on record so that you have notified them of the correct figure. If they choose to ignore it that is their lookout. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

You need to send any letter like this via recorded delivery (and keep a copy on file).0 -
And ask for confirmation of it !0

Not necessarily.
Your van could be a special edition.
Not all special editions are recorded on insurance databases especially if there are only a few of them.
I've had two cars like that now.
The first was a nightmare to insure because the car manufacturer seemed to have lots of special editions for that model. And I know I insured it as the incorrect model the first time.
The second one I know exactly the details to enter so just insisted on them being entered when I first insured it and subsequently corrected the entries when buying insurance online.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

i know for certain its not a special edition ,, there must be 100k of this model ,, the worring thing is if your not mechanical minded you would easy over look this kind of error,, bit scary0

I work in insurance and I know the computer is definitely not always right! Unfortunately a lot of larger companies tend to employ call-centre staff who rely on what their screen tells them.
I would send them a copy of the log book with your letter, then they can see the correct details themselves, and as Quentin says, send it RD and keep a copy of the letter and tracking number for your records.
The premium might go up due to the inreased engine size, but it's not a massive difference so hopefully there won't be much more to pay. Anyway, better to pay a bit extra now and be sure you're covered correctly rather than risk not being paid out for a claim!0
