Advice for claiming PPI from EGG

Hi All,

I'd be grateful for any advice you can offer me.
I took out a credit card with Egg online 10 years ago.
The limit was only 500 I was at Uni and never paid it off. When I did come into some cash, I called and tried to pay it but I couldn't pass security so they wouldn't let me pay it off! Had no idea what the security question was all about...
Long and short of it is I've been paying the minimum for about 10 years as I never got round to sorting it out properly! (Still 200 quid left to pay. Feel like a bit of an idiot for lettign it go on this long!)
A lot of people have told me that the PPI option was automatically checked on the online form, so chances are I've been paying it all this time.
How do I go about putting in a PPI claim now that EGG have been taken over by Barclaycard?

Thanks for your advice.

Sam

you complain anyway because you were a student at the time and not working.
    complain to barclaycard.

  • Funny thing - I just recived an email from Barclaycard informing me that they have upped my credit limit to £1000!!
Also, are Barclaycard linked to Barclays Bank? I ran into a lot of problems with them over their £22 'buffer zone' charges on an inactive account that added up to in excess of £600 that I'm currently still paying off!
Taking that into consideration, plus the fact that I haven't paid anything over the minimum for the entire TEN years I've had the card, I'm quite surprised...

Thanks Taff for your reply. I'm going to get onto Barclaycard and see where it goes!
  • It may be a bit premature to submit a complaint. You haven't given any indication yet that you ever had PPI. If you have it it would have appeared as a separate entry on every single credit card statement that you received over the last 10 years. Is it there?
  • I never had any statements as I had a paperless account. I was locked out of my account online and wasn't able to pass security to get back in (or pay it off). I set a secret question that I obviously thought at the time I would always know the answer to! I was asked to send a copy of my passport etc to verify my identity but the passport was expired and I was just too lazy to sort anything else out at the time :/

I do have PPI on another credit card I took out (Sainsbury's) but I haven't seen this appear on my statement? I didn't know I had PPI until I received an 'important changes to your PPI' document in the post. I assume I have a case here as one of the exceptions was that I wouldn't be covered if I was on a temporary contract. I remember declaring that I was when I took the credit card out by phone. I've only recently been given a permanent contract, but spent the last 4 years temping for the same company.
  • As regards the Egg account why not give Barclaycard a ring in the first place and ask them if you are paying PPI on the account.

As to the Sainsbury's account do you always pay this in full each month? If you do then no PPI will have been charged and there is nothing to try to reclaim. Although you may wish to cancel the PPI to avoid possible charges in future.
  • Before I go to the effort of putting a claim in I'll check with Barclaycard.

With regards to the Sainsbury's account, that was maxed out (about 2k) for a couple of years (probably up to 4), paid the minimum plus the odd 30 quid here and there. Was balance transferred to one of my mum's 0% cards at Christmas last year. The account is still open but no spending has been made on it since it was paid off in full.
  • Hi there... Barclaycard may not be able to help ... I put in a claim for PPI for an Egg Loan and CC both were applied for online and had the 'default' tick box - the Egg Loan PPI was refunded successfully by Egg but the CC was transferred to Barclays to deal with who advised that they have no paperwork to confirm that I paid PPI and unless I can provide evidence they cannot progress the claim. You maybe best to go to Egg first but be warned you can't get to speak to them on the phone and they don't respond to emails.... hard copy letter in the post seems to be the only way.

Hope you find the information your looking for... :-)
  • Thanks KKmatters :)
I don't have ANY paperwork at all from egg - only the old card somewhere. Should I send the template for requesting PPI information? And would Barclaycard have removed any PPI from my account then, or is it that they can't prove that it was or wasn't missold? In the first instance, I guess I need to check with Barclaycard if there's still anything on there at the moment.
  • Hi kodys_angel.... I've been on a search for the paperwork and Barclaycard state in their response that.... they have been unable to locate a policy in my name and that I am required to provide further information i.e. policy number, copy of the policy document and they will re-open the case.

If your card is still active I would contact Barclaycard to ascertain whether PPI has been included in your payments if they can't confirm this the next step would be Egg - I have to pay for release of the information pertaining to my credit card as mine is classed as an 'old' card Barclaycard don't hold all the information because it was pre-Barclay takeover!

As the OP says, their card is still active but they can't access their account. That means that barclaycard will have bought the responsibility for it.
Phone them and ask them to locate your account and reset the security for it so you can see yourself what you've been paying
