hi, im sorry but its horrible, and annoying, and im trying to see the point, but i cant! i posted twice today. the lil box thing only came up after i tried to post, saying i hadnt entered an end date. i entered the date, then it said i had to wait another 30 secs to post. just annoyed me.

also, i couldnt work out how to change the date, after id done it.

im also worried, as i couldnt put in an end time, so i wasnt sure whether to put in todays date, as the comp ends at 11.59pm tonight, or tomorrows date.

i cant read thru all the pages ere today, but i will tomorrow, so sorry if my concerns have already been raised.

for me it slowed the process down and overcomplicated something that i personally dont think was broken. thanks tho.
    :hello:
  • I don't comp by end date, so it doesn't directly affect me, but I'm just thinking if a newbie comes here, and sees everything so orderly they might think that the box actually adds the E: xx/xx and not bother.

And if it's not searchable then it will still be in danger of going to GO if I understand correctly.

Perhaps I'm just not getting it, but I can't see any benefits, but can see a few downsides. :(

That's what I thought from what the first post says....and I'm not a newbie.

If that was it's current or future functionality I could slightly see its purpose. To the make it as One-Eye mentions here would be even better ie Sortable and Searchable

At the moment its just another item to be mindful of when posting.
    EG:

    Is this a dupe?
Add a terms link if needed.
    Prize details.
    Entry restrictions.
    Date format.
    Guessedenddate

    Plus more :-)

I thought it would fill in the date automatically?

    It didn't in this one.

I tried that test earlier & it failed :-)

I'm afraid I don't really see any benefit of it in the current form, it just makes the thread list look messier and duplicates information.

It either needs to be sortable by end date so it can completely replace E: xx/xx, and maybe some thought as to if that is needed? E: xx/xx does seem to work quite well, is already effectively sortable by end date (using sort by title) and is quick to scan by eye.

Or, I've seen other vBulletin forums where fields in the new thread dialog are prefixed to the thread title itself. If instead of adding the date below each title it actually appended it to the beginning in a E:xx/xx/xx format, it would solve the problem of newbies not putting E: in the title and still be sortable by thread title for end date compers.

Speaking purely based on looks, as I haven't read enough about how it's supposed to work, I don't like it. I don't like the extra line it creates, and how small the date text is-and if it's larger, it will all look even worse. It just makes it harder for me to read due to the little text, I can't be the only one either.

Edit: Trying it out, I'm slowed right down, trying to read through all the cluttered text. Sorry, even if it becomes searchable, it's just harder to read.

This function does not stop competitions being posted without an end date in the title*, is not searchable but still increases the time it takes to post a competition, what is the point of it?

(*which are only a very small % of the comps posted anyway)

    I'm not sure,mjm3346

Unless it is just the foundation for future functionality that MSE admin are planning that we are not aware of.
Some are ignoring the function as they post & maybe if MSE admin just let us know the future role of the feature we would be willing to embrace its use.
I'm very grateful for the role that MSE admin & the techies play on here but maybe if they had been more open with us as to future plans on this one the comp posters would have returned the gesture?
