Combi Boiler "playing up"

Hello All,
Recently my (7 year old) combi boiler has been playing up.
When I switch it on it can go off after a few minutes, and I have to continually re-set.
The same happens with turning on the hot water - sometimes it comes on hot, other times it doesn't.
Also when the timer is set, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.
Anyway, my question ! .........
Does anybody have any idea what this could be / costs to resolve ?
There was a similar problem a couple of years ago and the British Gas engineer replaced the diaphragm (seemed like an inexpensive part to replace and only took him 10 minutes).
I know it is a difficult question, but I am not sure whether to use British Gas again (fixed fee about £180) or use an independant engineer.
It is just that if it sounds like a £50 job I will go for the independant engineer, but if it sounds as though it could be a bigger job then I will use GB.
Thanks for any comments.

Use an independent engineer engineer if you want the MSE answer.:money::money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I understand, however I don't know anybody or have a recommendation.
If it was a small job I would look at an independant, however if it looked as though it was going to cost say £150-£200 I would just go with British Gas.0 -

Sorry, the boiler is a Baxi 105e.
When the heating or water is turned on it sometimes works, however now it mostly goes off after a few seconds.
The first 2 red lights flash (indicating flame failure and safety thermostat) and I then use the reset selector switch to turn it back on.
I usually have to do this quite a few times before it eventually works.0 -
ok this will sound strange. but we have a britony combi. about 10 years old, very nosy and temprementle, and it stoped working for the ch. our local gas man came over and just turn down one dial and it works lovely. it was the dial with the icon of a rad and a tap and we had it on full.. he turned it down to half and we have heat and water. he said its cos the boilers are designed to do up to 10 rads but we only have 4 ( 1 bed flat) and the systum cant cope with trying to produce heat for 10 but only needs to do 4....
may not help , but worth a try.today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.
Living on my memories, making new ones.

These are very prone to pcb failure, but would need checking out on site first.0

Hmm, yes but someone local will know or recommend, and bear in mind what you view as a £200 job from your exp with BG, could in fact be a £120 job from the local guy??;);):money::money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
