Payment from European buyer that wants to collect

I have a question from someone in Switzerland who wants to collect an item I have listed on eBay. They are thinking of flying over then returning by train.
What would be the best payment method to accept.
Thanks.

This sounds like an expensive item.
Safest way I can think of...
Ask them to deposit cash, into your account at your bank with you there.
Second, would be check the cash yourself before handing over the item.0 -
Certainly not PayPal.
Cash only. If its expensive you can meet at a bank and make the transaction there.0 -
Whilst you can ask for whatever payment method you want you must remember that buyers have a right to pay with paypal and if they go through checkout that is the default setting.
However, if you have not got this item marked as collection only then you can negotiate for whatever payment you want as othewise you can insist on posting if buyer insists on usig paypal.
It all depends on whether this was a collection ONLY item or notI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would never accept Paypal for a collection as Paypal themselves have said you have no seller protection if you do.
Whilst you cannot refuse Paypal, you can refuse to allow collection (or any method other than Paypal approved trackable delivery).
I would tell the buyer it's cleared bank transfer or cash on collection if they want to collect. I had an Austrian buyer do exactly that with a watch I sold, if anything they seemed happy with the offer of paying on collection, it also gives the buyer a sense of security when spending £1500 with a stranger.====0 -

I.
No you can't unless you actually quoted postage costs on the auction beforehand. That's why i specifically mentioned it would depend on whether this was a strictly collection only item or whether postage was shown.
Otherwise all that happens is that buyer pays paypal for a collection only item, seller then has to refund payment and re send an invoice which includes a postage cost. Buyer refuses to pay and seller is stuck with FVFs, a possible neg and a non performing seller complaint.
None of us like the idea of paypal on collection, all of us (I hope) know the possibility of a scam. However, pretending it is easy to get round does no favours to any of us and gives a false sense of securoty to new sellers reading this. No one can force you to sell, but if you refuse you must be aware of the costs to a seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The listing is for collection or delivery, but only for the UK. I presume as he is from overseas it will be on my terms, cash or bank transfer.0

As it wasn't collection only then you are free to negotiate your own safer form of payment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My advice comes from Paypal but arguably, they did say you need to state it in the auction/sale.
It is quite permissible to stipulate that "Paypal can't be used for collected items and retain seller protection. To retain seller protection the item must be delivered by a Paypal approved delivery method that includes tracking and proof of delivery".
Paypal's own words, and copied from an email to clarify the position for me when I queried the position with them over an expensive item that I offered collection as an option on.====0 -

I was told by ebay a few months back that I should phone my buyer and ask why they left me poor stars , and they sent me a transcript of that conversation even after I pointed out that it directly contravened their terms and conditions. So be careful doing what paypal tell you and expecting to be protected when ebay decide it is against the rules.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
