It is just the downloading, and more important distribution of copyright material that is illegal
I cannot think of one person who has been done for downloading in the UK. Its the uploading thats the problem.
Whether that will change with the Digital Economy Act 2010 is still not proven in a court. Even then it is the less savvy internet user who would be done, as its now possible to download torrents via 3rd party sites abroad who then upload them as "normal" downloads on the usual hosting sites.
Streaming live sports is normally illegally, but again I cannot think of an individual who has been prosecuted for the download in the UK.0
