Replacement central heating boiler

Hi.,
I would really appreciate some advice on selecting the best, i.e. most appropriate, replacement boiler. Currently I have a combi boiler which must be around 20 years old. It has been on a service contract for years and is, I suspect, coming to the end of its useful life.
I'm trying to work out which type of boiler, and which brand, would make the best replacement. The boiler has to provide water and heat for a smallish two-bedroomed flat with a total of five radiators. Initial costs and running costs are, of course, an issue however I don't want to be penny wise pound foolish,
I would very much appreciate informed advice from anyone with in depth knowledge. Thanks in advance.

Why do you suspect existing one is on its way out? make/model?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Ask around for a recommended Registered Gas Engineer who is local to you. Make sure he's reliable and he can maybe supply good references of his previous work. Steer clear of Biasi, Ravenheat, Ferroli, Halstead, Sime there are possibly more and I'm sure someone will add more to the list.
What are your arrangements for showering, is the shower running from the combi?
What is your budget?
Make sure whoever comes to quote checks your incoming mains water pressure and flow at standing pressure and running another tap.0 -
Thank you for your replies.
The boiler is a Glow Worm Swiftf Flow 80. I am assuming it will be approaching the end of its life for two reasons. The first is that I live in a complex of 12 flats, all built at the same time, and mine is now the only flat that has not had to replace its boiler. Also because when, about four years ago, my boiler needed several parts replacing, I was told that although it was old these repairs should give me another 2-3 years from it. I am in no hurry at all to replace it and will only do so when it can no longer be fixed. However as I knew nothing about boilers I thought I had better start to get some knowledge to ensure that, when it is replaced, I do not make an expensive mistake.
With reference to the shower, I don't have a shower but would like to have one fitted. I had been guessing that this should wait until I have a new boiler because, although the hot water supply is good when the heating system is turned on, it has a tendency to alternate between hot and cold when it is only heating water.
Thank you once again for your help.Make £10 per day in May challenge: £310/123.920 -
Sorry I forgot to add that I am unsure of my budget. I see a new boiler as being, hopefully, a longer term investment and, as such, will pay what I have to to ensure I am buying the right kit for my requirements..Make £10 per day in May challenge: £310/123.920

Luckily this boiler is at the simpler end of combi boiler technology.

Apart from the make of boiler, the most crucial thing is the quality and professionalism of the installer. A poor instal can ruin a perfectly good boiler in months.
I wouldnt worry too much just yet..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
