    I closed mine in Branch.

I think you can also write to them with your closing request. Address is online.

As Innovate says you can go in branch and ask them to close it, which would be quicker and far easier.

Write to PO Box 541, Leeds.

I'd also suggest a complaint to the branch for wasting your time. That should pocket you £25.

Should be able to re-designate the existing websaver to the online saver. Branch can do this, not sure if it can be done over the phone or not.

As for closing, branch should have done it for you, log a complaint with them, they will compensate you for any additional costs and the inconvenience.

just write to them, and get them closed, address is online. not really a case for compensation surely?

Yes there is, the customer has been told correctly to go to branch to close the account then been "fobbed" off by the branch as they could not be arsed to check their procedures. Customer now has to make a subsequent journey back to sort out something that should and could have been done initially.
Not talking massive compensation, a fair amount would be around £20 to cover petrol, parking, wasted calls etc. It is not beyond reason afterall the bank are quick to charge you when you do something wrong.

Well having to pay for a postal stamp just to close a savings account I never use would be to much of a honor to them
  • I recently closed 3 of them in branch at the CS desk rather than at one of the cashiers.
