I've just switched bank accounts and managed to close my old account before paying outstanding charges :T
So the question is, given that AFAIK the unfair charges issue is on hold rather than resolved, can I ignore an attempt from the bank to enforce these charges and insist that the bank proves they are fair?

Care to explain further how you managed to close the account whilst it still had an outstanding debt on it?
Presumably, as they agreed to close the account, then any outstanding balance was waived. :beer:0 -
The bank can still send you a statement for the charges asking you to remit payment to them.
The unfair charges was, to all intents and purposes, won by the banks, it's not on hold.0 -
Just a quick update...
Got a demand for my account being "overdrawn" after I had closed it, so since it matched the bank charges I was expecting (and taking into account the clarification above) I paid it.
Today I got a letter demanding another £30!!! Phoned up and found that this £30 was my bank charges, the other £30 was a "commission charge"
So I asked what the commission charge was and after 20 minutes on hold, they decided that they had no idea what it was either.
So unless it's obvious, challenge any charges to your account.0
