I assume you mean Southern Ireland? It's amazing how many British visitors do not realise that you use sterling in Northern Ireland!

    Very good point.
  • And by Southern Ireland, I assume you mean the Republic of Ireland?

  • If its just 50 quid, you can wait until you get there and withdraw cash from an ATM, the difference will be pence. Mind you, changing money at the airport isn't a bad idea as it will give you something to do.

I travel to Ireland (Republic of) frequently to stay with relatives. I always use my debit card at the ATM in arrivals at Dublin Airport. I always withdraw 200 euros - any euros left over can then be used on the next visit. The charge for using my debit card is minimal. Do not use a credit card to obtain cash!

They must be daft than not to realise you can use sterling in Northern Ireland. I made sure I had both currencies when I was over there in September, more euros than sterling, but anyway.

I found the prices comparable to where I work/live.

Why would you take both currencies if staying in Northern ireland, and definitely why would you take more of a foreign currency than you would of sterling for a UK destination?

Southern Ireland is a perfectly good term to use.
  • Or just take 2 minutes and pre order with travelex or whoever is BdC of choice at the airport you use and collect on arrival. The rate is woeful at the airport on demand

Because I stayed in Meath and went up to the caves just over the border meaning I needed sterling.
