I want to buy a used 37 inch TV and also some floorstanding loudspeakers. They are usually listed as collection only for fairly obvious reasons.
I live near Chichester in West Sussex and I am prepared to travel a reasonable distance from home for the right item.
I am also prepared to collect from parts of South or West London as I go near there socially and can probably combine a trip. I’m not willing to go to central or north or east London.
But most listings for Greater London just say London in the summary and rarely does the seller make the location more specific.
I am fed up sending emails asking whereabouts in London. There is a huge difference between Tooting Bec and Tottenham.
The distance search in Ebay isn't an accurate enough guide.
Please would you London based sellers put a more precise location in your details.
Rant over.

Personally, for a collection item, I give the name of my local town, but if it's not clear, simply message the seller and ask the area."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

I already do that.porto_bello wrote: »Personally, for a collection item, I give the name of my local town, but if it's not clear, simply message the seller and ask the area.I am fed up sending emails asking whereabouts in London. There is a huge difference between Tooting Bec and Tottenham.
It is tiresome having to do that when the seller could easily state the location on the listing.
Frankly I often don't bother to ask so the seller is reducing his potential number of bidders.0 -
I know what you mean, I'm near Worthing so same for me.0

I asked a seller once their location... I got it back in one word.. no politeness .. nothing... silly little things, but sale lost there!0

To be fair I often include my postcode, exact location and directions from the nearest motorway in my listing and I still get many many questions on 'where in Lancashire are oyu.......'0

I get annoyed when the item shows as within 5 miles from my address and then in the auction it says "selling for my mum/sister/dog collection from..." which is another 10 miles away.
I also get annoyed with people who don't expand on where in London, Im North west and my mum lives in south west but I dont want to go all the way to places that are near Kent and Essex. And luckily I work in central London at weekends so if they can meet me near a tube Im happy enough to do that as well.S.P.C member 1662 - target £3000 -
Manchester and Liverpool sellers are just as bad to be honest.0

Same here
On my business account I obviously show my full location and I still get, 'hi there, I would like to collect your xx where are you ?'
on my private account I show my location clearly as well for collection items and also still get asked, in fact I have even blocked people who ask me for my location when it is clearly marked as if they are too daft to read it clearly stated in the auction details (and I have very few lines of text) then I doubt whether they can use a map to find me if they do win.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. To be honest, I've gained out of sellers failing to make pick-up locations clear, in terms of reduced buyer interest and cheaper prices, so I don't complain.
So if I see a bargain and I'm well placed to collect, it often works in my favour that others are dismissing the item, due to the vague location.
