Postcard from a "Paul Bailey"

Hi everyone,

Just got home about 15 minutes ago to find a postcard (the kind you might use to enter competitions) through my door, addressed to me, and on the back it says:

Could you please telephone Paul Bailey
and quote reference H1/23536/12A
as soon as possible.
The number is 01252 (number scored out here) 758806
Thank you

I called the number and left him a message, but a quick Google search shows this on tellows.co.uk.

I think I may have just done something daft by calling him and may have to call the police on 101...

  • Hi mightyroyals:
Did this person answer after you called?
    No, it went to voicemail.
Do you live in the aldershot area where there number is from?
Nope, I'm in the West Midlands.
Do you have any debt this could be related too?
No, but it might be connected with someone I know from when I (stupidly, I'll admit) allowed him to use my home address as the registered one for his business.

    Hope that helps :)
  • It could well be for someone else. Did it have your name on it? if not i would put it to one side and if anyone comes to your address kindly ask them to jog on and if they dont call the police. Whatever you do, Do not ring them you are only giving them your number.

It maybe worth a shot at heading over to the consumer action group forum and posting in there debt forum and see if anyone else has had one of these cards on there.

It did have my name on it.

If they won't jog on, I take it I call the police non-emergency number (which is now 101 for our force, thankfully - it used to be a longer, harder to remember, 0845 number).

The lady who posted on that tellows link described the guy as a stalker and found him to be very intimidating.
  • No you call 999 thats what i would do, If you are concerned call 101 and explain to them what has happened and what you have found out and see what advice they give you. was the postcard hand delivered?

It was delivered by post with a 1st class stamp on it.
  • Well what ever you do Don,t ring them. I would put it to one side and see if anything else appears but keep it for your records and if anyone should appear at your do and it is a big IF tell em to leave or you will call the police and if they do not leave dial 999 and get the police there as a emergency

Slow down! All we have so far is one report on a website, there may be something a lot more innocent than the panicked 'stalker' accusation. Perhaps he is a debt collector looking for details on the company registered, or maybe it is to give you an inheritance, who knows? See what he says first, if he is some weird stalker then it is not add if leaving a voicemail is going to change a whole lot overnight, if he already knows your address to send a card to. No need to panic based on one website posing

You only call 999 if you are at immediate risk. MothballsWallet is correct, she should dial 101 if she requires advice, or to report what she suspects may be a crime.
