Hi,

Having used one of the comparison sites (simply switch) I saw that I could make a saving of approx £125 pa by switching from SSE to Npower. This was on an overall usage of £960pa for both gas and electric.

I now get the "welcome" letter from Npower which tells me that "you may be able to make a combined annual saving of up to £33 with npower if your level of gas and electricity remains the same. This saving includes our £60 annual dual fuel monthly DD discount". They plan to DD me £77 per month rather than £80.

Whilst £33 is better in my pocket, its not even close to the quoted £125 saving and I'm beginning to wonder how much credibility these comparison sites actually have.

my advice would be to try at least 2 if not 3 comparison sites and c how the results compare, npowers price reductions dont come into effect until 30th april, some comparison sites have factored in the price decrease others havent because the comparisons should be made as of now, best to check if you are on npowers best tariff as initially despite scottish power telling me all my comunications would be online they set me up for a paper bill paying quarterly. to get the cheapest npower price u will have to stay with them 12 months, money supermarket are currently offering 30.00 cashback on dual fuel switches so that would have saved u a further 30.00

In my experiance No. I moved into my new property last year and continued with Npower as the energy supplier. I had a bill from them in Janruary this year which was way over the top. They have been overcharging me for the past year. I have been dealing with their customer relations department but they have lied to me about my meters being set for economy 7, and ignored the information i have given them. They have even failed to send me a cheque for a failed appointment. The saga has no sign of ending soon and still they continue to up my bill and take money from my account. It is scandalus they way Npower have treated me and others i know. I can't wait to be in the position of changing my energy supplier.

if you have your kWh and the name of your regional electric area i could tell you the annual cost with and without discount

I'll second that. I changed to Npower a few weks ago and I'm completely and utterly naffed off with this companies total and utter incompitance. The savings I _may_ be making are not worth the hours I spend on the phone sorting out _their_ mistakes. They give HSBC a run for their money for the prize for incompitance, that tells you how bad they are.

I would not recommend Npower, we moved house last year and on the completion date I rang cancelled, gave meter reading and paid the balance off over the phone.

I then had a red letter notice saying I hadnt paid, so I rang and complained and they sorted it out and said the account was closed.

The new property was also with npower and thinking it was 'hard' to swap we decided to keep with npower. 3 months later I had a bill for the new property and also a bill for the old property (post was on divert from old address). I rang Npower and they said I had to pay it as I was still the owner of the property and had not cancelled the account, even though they were billing me at the new address. I managed to sort it out and gave the name of the new owner. I rang up 3 times in as many days to check whether they had changed it and they hadnt and I was still be charged. In total I had spent over 5 hours on the phone to them and in the end all they offered was £5.00 compensation. I personally think they are crap.

I am now with EDF energy who are a lot cheaper plus you get Nectar points which is more than you got with npower, might be worth looking on there site for price comparason.

in my experience npower are terrible at changing, losing and even gaining new costomers details. in 2005 i had a short stay in a flat with a credit meter run by npower i contacted them severel times for a payment card wich they sent and i used, then when i left the property they chased me for monies unpaid.I had to refer this to energywatch to get it resolved. Then after moving into another property directly from the flat I called my supplier (guess who) with meter readings and my details which they accepted-all ok so far. So as the bills rolled in over the next 18 months in the previous customers name i paid them and called to reaffirm my details. At this point intime (after almost 2 years) they are sending letters to the previous customer crediting them with payments i have made over the last two years along with checks and have not contacted me for almost 4 months. I fear this case may also end up with energywatch at some point in the future.so my freind I would say DONT change to npower if you value your sanity :rotfl:
