Nexus 7 - Phone?

Does a Nexus 7 work as a phone (if you get the one with SIM compatibility)? Or does it only offer mobile data option?

(Thinking about maybe getting one for the missus - she has a milestone birthday approaching early next year). :)

Yes . I know. BUT ... it offers:

    NETWORK
    Unlocked GSM/UMTS/HSPA+
    GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    3G (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    HSPA+ 21

... which are all mobile network protocols/connections.

So I ask again ... CAN it ALSO work as a phone?

(Please no smart@rse responses - this is a genuine question).

They all look like the cellular data/mobile internet services, not voice. Saying that, the galaxy note can work as a phone.... but to my eyes, it only seems to do mobile data.

I think you'll have to wait till its released unfortunately. The rumours however are it doesn't have the built in phone app, so no calls =(

Shame really the original 7" tablet (galaxy tab) could make phone calls.

Yup stick skype (or other VoIP / SiP service) on to the nexus and away you go!

You'll should get a bluetooth headset for ease of use.. Or walk around like Dom Jolly! ^_^

That's if you get one with mobile data! otherwise you're stuck with any WiFi hotspot you can find to send receive calls ^_^

    As already said NO.

The nexus 4 is out Nov 13, that will take a normal sim.

Seeing folks gabbling away into a 7" tablet is something worth waiting to see...

Mind you I think they support bluetooth so it would probably be just more Mr. Spock lookalikes :(
