  • all by the by now I have returned to 6 hrs timed, but thanks for the input folks! I have set boiler to 55 degrees flow. I'm trying to make it condense all the time

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Sorry maybe the title is wrong, I know 24/7 obviously isn't cheaper than timed, been done to death as people have said. What I was surprised about was the increase in gas consumption running the boiler for a total of 6 hours in 30 mins sessions as opposed to running it for 2 timed blocks of 3 hrs.

I'm no expert as I've asked for LOADS of advice on these forums... but the 30 min sessions was always going to cost more. When you have your heating on timed, you're boiler will not be 'on' for 6 hours but doing it the other way, chances are it was, like Cardew said.

I'm currently conducting my own 'trial and error experiment' at the moment trying to find a balance between comfort and cost... I think I've almost cracked it! :j

Being "comfortable" all day is no longer an option.

Well it is if you think outside the box!

I have an ASHP, 24/7 heating for a few £ a day. Very reasonable and certainly an affordable option.
  • The results may be meaningful for CARDEW but meaningless for anyone else.
    1. there is no information on ambient temperatures during the test periods.
    2. there is no information on his property uValue.

    - thank god for that, someone else knows about u-Value :D

  • I have now received some information on independent lab. energy usage testing. If there is a forum that would be better to put this information on to, I'd be grateful if you can let me know.
