Yes the Epson Printers are generally regarded as quite good.
Cheap Individual Replacement Ink as well for them is availble online0 -
bought my dad this for xmas. Very impressed with it, cheap ink, good photos and good everyday printing especially economical on 'draft' setting. Less than £50 from 'neat-ideas.co.uk'

The only problem with Epsons is the print heads, On Epsons, the print heads are a seperate component to the cartridges, and if you don't use the printer very often they can clog up, meaning you have to replace the heads, or the printer. HP on the other hand have the print heads actually on the cartridge...
Quality wise, there isn't much to choose from between the main brands on the budget printers, they are these days quite impressive for the money0 -

... and thats why Epson cartridges are so cheap. They don't have the expense of heads on the cartridge.
I'm on my second Epson now, having had a Lexmark in the middle (Never again) and had this one (CX3200) for about 3 years. It does sometime clog, but it has a headcleaning option on the menu which never fails.
With low to medium usage I would say it would be good for 5 years.
My cartridges were 99p each from 7dayshop until recently.
Excellent printers in my opinion.
Hope that helps0
