Mobile phone help please if anyone has an idea?

Hi, first of all I am not very technical so would really appreciate plain English!
I lost my phone last week. Reported it lost nad got the phone/sim blocked. On Monday I picked up a new sim and phone. The sim had a temporary number. On Monday eve I called tesco mobile to get the sim swithced to my old number. Lost reception for a few hours yesterday but it didn't seem to switch to my old number. Called them again today and they said it had switched already. Got cut off so called my number from the house and it went through to the new mobile - Yay! But...... I can't make calls or send texts. It just tells me the number wasn't recognised.
Sorry that's a bit long, I wasn't sure whcih bits were relevant! Any ideas as to why I can't make calls? I have already tried switching it on and off again many times.... It's a nokia 100.

If you haven't done already, switch the phone off, take the battery out for about thirty seconds, put it all back and switch on. That might cure the problem.0

Just in case you're all waiting on the edge of your seats to see what the problem was: My sim was still barred from me reporting it lost/stolen last week! Not quite sure why it was still barred after I asked them to reactivate my number :question: but hey ho! Supposedly it will be unbarred within the hour... Thanks for your suggestions guys but I guess that explains why no matter how many times I switched it on/off it didn't help.... Let's hope it's working again soon, I was starting to tear my hair out!
