Dell XPS L501X - Speakers

My 2 year old Dell XPS laptop has started making a crackling sound when the speakers are switched on. It doesn't appear to be there when the laptop comes out of sleep or is switched on but starts to get louder after a while. It completely disappears when I put in headphones. Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this?

the reason I ask is I remember a sound problem on a Dell XPS, but this was while playing a DVD video on the laptop, but it made some strange sounds instead the normal sounds (new mail etc)

The solution was to turn off the wifi, (fn+F2)

  • No its on Windows 7. I've tried switching off the wi-fi and unplugging the power but nothing works. Any guides out there on how to open up the laptop. I tried yesterday but couldn't get to the speakers at all.
