Halifax One wont transfer from Norwich & Peterborough?

Hi all,

I recently went to transfer my outstanding balance from my Norwich and Peterborough Credit Card to my new Halifax One card to take advantage of the 0% 12 month Balance Transfer. When I go to make the transfer however Halifax One says that it does not accept balance transfers from this organisation! Has anybody else experienced this? It would have been nice to know this before I applied.

This leaves me in the situation of having to apply for yet another card in order to do the balance transfer before my interest free period runs out. With the damage this further application may do to my credit rating I need to be sure my next card will accept transfers from Norwich and Peterborough.

I'm thinking of applying for the Ulster Union Rugby Card. Does anybody know if I will be able to make the necessary transfer to this?

Thanks

The N&P card and the Halifax One are both issued by the same group (HBOS) which is why you can't do a transfer between them. Interesting the T&C don't excplicity prevent this is section 6 they just say "any balance we allow you to transfer" although at http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/rateschargeslimits.asp they do say "balance transfers from most cards excluding other Halifax or Bank of Scotland products"

The T&C for the Ulster Bank card state "You can only transfer balances from non-Ulster Bank credit or store cards" also this card is issued by RBS so you should be OK.

One alternative would be to apply from an Egg Money card and do a BT from Egg Money to Halifax One (Giving you a +ve balance on Egg so the Egg credit limit does not matter) then a BT from N&P to Egg. This way you are not gambling on Ulster giving you enough credit to transfer the N&P balance.

    Good answer from Blanik.

Growmoney - in 99.9% of cases, lenders will not let you do a BT from another one of their cards ... even if it is branded as something else. In this instance, you are trying to BT between two Halifax Bank of Scotland cards (HBOS ) i.e. Halifax ONE and N&P.

Before applying for a card it is important to know who the card operator is. You can find this out in a couple of ways.
    • Looking at the bottom of the webpage that promotes a credit card. If you look at the bottom of the N&P Credit Card Page you will see the words
Norwich and Peterborough Credit Card is issued by Halifax plc, registered in England no. 2367076. Registered Office: Trinity Road, Halifax, West Yorkshire, HX1 2RG.
    • Reading the cards Ts & Cs. It will definitely be in here

  • Have you actually rang and spoken to CSA? Last year I managed to transfer a balance from my Sainsburys card (another HBOS card)on to my Halifax One card - admittedly it was only for £350. I attempted it online and kept getting the Naff off you stupid woman message so I rang them and they did it for me. Might be worth a shot. Or do you have another card that Halifax would accept and you could do a BT to that then to Halifax?

It's always worth a try by calling and asking. I am a little surprised that they did a BT from the Sainsburys card. However there is a subtle different between Sainsburys Bank and the N&P card. The N&P card is an HBOS card which is just branded as N&P. Sainsbury Bank is a company in its own right which is a joint venture between Sainsbury and HBOS with each owning 50%. Therefore the Sainsbury Bank card is only half HBOS.

Cheers to all who replied. You have been very helpful.

I have already done the Egg Money trick with my new card, I was intending on using this to fill this years ISA. Looks like i'm going to be paying off the Norwich and Peterborough card with this instead

Still I can always apply for that Ulster Union Rugby card in a month and do another Egg Money trick cant I :rotfl: Rock On!

    Thanks
