We are thinking of buying a ford fiesta edge 1.4 diesel and just wondered if anyone on here had any reviews of this car.

We are getting rid of our 3 year old Mazda 2 Tamura as we hate it! And looking at the ford fiesta diesel.

Our mileage is creeping up and the diesel we had before the Mazda was wonderful (wish we hadn't got rid of it!). The Mazda is very very thirsty for a small car and I don't like the drive.

We do want a small diesel so any other recommendations for about 12k in total would be great. And hubby wants a new car (I have talked to him but he won't be budged so has to be new)

Many thanks in advance. Xxx

I personally really like the Fiesta, especcially the diesels. But if you don't like the drive on the Mazda 2, you probably won't like the Fiesta either as they are related.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Is the consumption good on the diesel?

We are getting roughly 220 miles to the tank on the Mazda 2 which is appalling! In our grande punto diesel (which i loved!) we would get at least 475 (round town) and approx 575-600 motorway!

You do not mention an annual mileage so its worth mentioning the problems with DPFs on modern diesel, they don't like lots of short journeys. As discussed here:

Our annual mileage is probably about 9-10k with a real mix of town/motorway driving. A 80miles motorway driving round trip a couple of times a week.

When we had our previous diesel (only bought as it was cheaper than the petrol on an offer) we were amazed as we thought it wouldn't work out cheaper due to not high mileage but we saved a packet. And then taking into account the cheaper road fund it worked a lot cheaper.
  • Interesting as I was looking at the Mazda Tamara for my wife. SHe test drove a Fiesta as well. Also looking at the Seat Ibiza and Toyota Yaris. Anyone any thoughts on these other tow options as a comparison?

Mileages seems too low to be worth getting a diesel, its often not worth it until your annual mileage is at least 15K. There is a spreadsheet you can down load from the whatcar magazine website which allows you to easily compare a petrol and diesel car

    I wouldn't touch a modern diesel and I do 15k a year!

My family comes from a long line of agricultural diesel fitters and, put it this way, I'm glad I listened to their rants!

We have the 1.3 5dr petrol Mazda tamura and hate it. The fuel consumption is through the roof IMO for a small car. We average 220 miles to the tank (approximately £45 to fill up) which is atrocious and we are not boy racers at all!!

The car inside is ok but it's fuel that grates me. Lol. Maybe the diesel would be better on the tamura who knows. But I wouldn't buy another one.

Your mileage is too low to warrant a diesel in my opinion, the petrol Fiesta should achieve over 45 MPG. I had a C Max petrol and that averaged 45 MPG or thereabouts, 1.6 engine.

    wife's new car
    2009 ford fiesta 1.25 petrol

    average around town = 30 - 32 mpg and that's driven economical

no way will it get 40 mpg average around town

    on a run at 60mph = 45mpg

    wife's last car
ford fiesta 1.4 tdci around town = 42 - 45 mpg driven like a boy racer

    driven economically 50 - 55 mpg

    don't go by official figures
