Removing light scratches from a windscreen

Looks like I have some light scratches on my windscreen after someone tried to wipe it down.
Doesn't seem too deep so I'm hoping to be able to buffer them out with something...

Has anyone used anything or can recommend a product I could use to good effect (preferably applicable by hand rather than machine)

Thanks

  • Not exactly cheap and doesn't necessarily need a drill to use. Minor scratches will disappear by hand buffing. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-windscreen-tools/windscreen-scratch-repair-kit.html . Only good for light scratches though!
There are cheaper alternatives on ebay which offer similar results.

I've used Brasso before. (But try it on a *small* area first)

You could try toothpaste (its slightly abrasive) or Displex (get it very cheap on ebay, designed for mobile phone screens etc).

Solvol Autosol. Spelling? Used it to polish metal etc. Nicely abrasive without being overly so.

Do that to get 99.999% of the way then T _Cut?

correct me if i'm wrong, but scracthes in glass don't buff out, they're not like paint on a car where you effectively trim down the top to create an smooth surface. All these products do is fill the scratches so they're less visible. Stuff like rainx work in that way too.

The only way to get scratches out is to replace the windscreen. They're a lot cheaper than bodypanels and 10 year old cars should get them replaced as it really changes the feel of the car. Makes the car look like new.
  • Despite my regular promotion of the products, I dont work for them or get commission!

Autoglym Glass Polish - Have used it on windows, windsreens, mirrors and even the old glass on an old family clock case. Works great and requires only a bit of elbow grease.

    .

Ok here's the correction; you're wrong.

Light surface scratches can be removed the same way as paint scratches. Lightly abrasive material will remove the glass round the scratch and lower it to the same level
