BHS - reasonable time for delivery?

I ordered some bits for Christmas (I like to be organised!) and a birthday present from BHS at the beginning of October, it was free to delivery to the store so I thought - awesome! Save some money!!

I got an email to say it was dispatched on the 10th October, but since then... nothing. I have emailed them and I got a swift 'It has been dispatched' after several emails yet they are now back to ignoring my emails. I have called the store and they definitely don't have it. I don't see how something can take almost a month to arrive - is there anything I can do next?!

Hope someone can help me!!

Depends what the goods are, but generally no it's not reasonable.

Why not just cancel the order ?

I already paid for the items by debit card. They told me I can't cancel as order has been dispatched.

If you ordered online (or by phone) tell them you want to cancel using the unconditional right afforded to you by the Distance Selling Regulations. Providing the goods in question are not exempt either from the DSRs themselves or regulation 10.

  • Hi. I've had a similar experience to you. Order placed 31st Oct, despatched 7th Nov and then nothing. I rang bhs today and after spending 15 minutes on hold, got through to a girl who told me that after 7 days from despatch they have to report the item as lost. I had arranged for collection from store. She said that I should ring the store to see if it had been delivered and then ring bhs customer services back!! I asked why, as the customer it was my job to do all that when she was customer services. She popped me on hold again, and came back 2 minutes later to say that my items hadn't arrived in store and that they had to offer me a refund. I asked why they couldn't just send the goods again, and she said they were now out of stock!! This would be made within 7 days.
Now this happened last year. I ordered stuff and about two weeks later I received an email telling me that the goods were out of stock, even though they were supposedly in stock at the time of ordering and they were happy to charge me for them.
Makes you wonder if using customers money is whats keeping them afloat!
Go online, get the number and give them a bell.
  • Got an email from BHS this morning saying supposed lost items were now in store ready for collection! Another 15 minutes on hold to customer services. My refund has apparently been put through and I told them I had purchased alternative lighting from elsewhere. It was suggested that I return my replacements and collect these instead, but I declined. I just want to make sure I get my refund.
I think the message is clear. Nobody at BHS seems to know what they're doing, so probably best to avoid ordering online from them.
