Table top sales in empty High Street units?

Hi all,
Unusual question: My local council has obtained funding from the London Mayor's Office to utilise a 'pop up' shop in the high street (pop-up meaning temporary). Local residents have been asked for feedback and suggestions.
I suggested (with the expense of Christmas approaching) having a table top sale, where residents could set up a table and sell their unwanted items for a day... basically, an 'indoor boot sale' that the weather couldn't spoil. If it proved popular, and oversubscribed, maybe holding one each Saturday in the lead-up to Christmas?
In response, I've received little more than blank looks of disbelief!
I can't believe nobody else has tried something as relatively simple as this. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Did it work?

I've been to many table sales, problem is that there are usually very few sellers due to limited space and it gets very cramped. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0
