Employer - Work experience request - was I too rude

Up until the OP's last rant I'd have said "Send a copy of the exchange to the college" BUT the OP sank to the student's level -maybe understandably but it was entirely unprofessional and makes his company look bad .....so I don't think he has a leg to stand on complaining about HER lack of professionalism. I do understand how annoying people can be -I deal with them at work every day but in all honesty I'd never respond like that whatever the provocation -it'd be 1 Unprofessional and 2 Gross misconductI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
OP does carry a false sense of superiority to be honest. So he's the senior professional and she's the immature student, and he's going to contact her college so perhaps her tutors can reprimand her like a child? No it doesn't work like that. She applied independently, not as some representative of her college so by contacting her college you're showing how unprofessional you are.
The college won't do anything anyway because even if she was more... inappropriate, that's her choice outside of college. Long as it's not within college they don't have a say on how she chooses to act as a person.
Sorry I don't agree.
Any student applying for work experience is representing their college whether they realise it or not.
If employers get the impression that students from college X don't make an effort then they might look elsewhere or just give up on providing work experience altogether. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
I don't understand why she couldn't follow the simple instructions? Or why she got arsey about it? if she'd downloaded the form she would have known it was a online jobby.
It's the same when you place a job advert... advert says, Send us you CV with a covering letter to blah@blahblah.com or post to XXXX
you still get phone calls asking what to do and how to apply  and then 25% have a covering letter saying 'Hiya, Here's my CV' (from XsexyfluffybunnyX@hotmail.com or something equally inappropriate for applying for jobs from)

I heard someone once used an email saying 'suckdeep' and the employer responded with a fake email address called 'howdeep' lol.0 -

The OP looks to have done more for job/work experience seekers than most people & companies would do. Plus I get the impression he wants to contact the college so they can remind their students that coming across as a whining brat emailing from their phone while on the bus, is not the way to get placements.0 -

Seems like OP and you are not actually wanting to help students applying for work experience. All you are trying to do is get them in trouble, but because they applied on their own the colleges can't do anything. They won't get in trouble even. :rotfl:0 -
You were on the professional line towards the end IMO. You should have restated the instructions and left any other emails unanswered.0

How the world has changed. I'm mid-40's (dinosaur in the younger generations terms now) and I would never have had such a polite response with instructions on what to do. If you wanted a job then you gave 150% and researched everything about the job you wanted. There was no option to say "I cba, what's the link?" Furthermore there was no obligation on the person offering the job to provide such information. You applied for the job and went to the interview, smiled, smarmed the interviewer as much as you could and hoped.
I'm astounded at the attacks on the guy who gave her extremely fair responses given the impetuous nature of the interviewee's questions. I personally wouldn't have wasted a second in even responding given the lazy attitude.....0 -
