Santandar 123 Credit Card

DO NOT USE THE Santandar 123 Credit Card.

We have had our card for 4 months. For the past two months I called Santander to pay the card balance in full as Martin advised. The Santander operator told me to pay the wrong amount twice and as a result I was changed £110 interest in total (for September and October). When I called the credit card helpline operator, she agreed, they told me to complain.
I have complained and Santander have refused to help even though they have the recordings to prove I was incorrectly advised by SANTANDER. My MP Vince Cable told me the only way forward was to speak to a branch manager. I did that, and she did not help, the next step is to pass my complaint to the financial ombudsman. I have been with Abbey for 30 years and I have over £40K in savings with Santander. I am a doctor and this is how they treat me. If I treated my patients like that I would be sacked. I will now move ALL of my money from Santander. This has been a VERY expensive mistake, make sure you don't make the same mistake. They have NO Loyality and they are the WORST for customer service. Now I know why.

Why did you not pay the amount requested on your statement?
  • I'd also suggest putting a NOT in your large red statement at the beginning of your post lol :)

Green is the colour usually favoured by nutters.

The folk who publish Idiot's Guides are missing out on a couple of opportunities:

An Idiot's Guide To Reading Statments

    and

An Idiot's Guide To Setting Up A Direct Debit.

Don't tell me you're one of those people who don't use Direct Debits because you like to stay in control of your money. That would be the icing on the cake. :rotfl:

So you read your statement that said "Amount due: X", but then decided to pay Y because an incompetent Santander employee told you?

Why even phone them at all when you have DDs, FPs or could even just walk into a bank with your statement and pay it that way?

Just because you got stung doesn't mean its a bad card.

Got to say hubby and I have this credit card and find the statements so simple to understand, no possibility of confusing how much you have to pay and when. In our opinion it is an idiot proof credit card.

Absolutely genius post. Love the red font. Also the totally irrelevant "I am a doctor." Brilliant, really made my morning.

    ETA: "Loyality"?

I think you'd get more sympathy if you explained why when you called Santander and they gave you a different amount to what was on your statement (twice, I assume), you still decided to pay the lesser amount rather than the actual amount on your statement. Did the person at Santander say your statement balance was wrong? Did you not receive a statement? By my calculations you would have to have underpaid by about £500 to be charged that much interest. That's quite a difference. Write a letter to them explaining who you spoke to and when, and why you did what you did. But ultimately there was a statement sent to you with a balance, and you didn't pay the whole balance, therefore you pay interest, as per your terms and conditions.

All we needed was a personal medical condition and an unwell relative and we have the ranter's trifecta!

How hard is it to pay the payment due amount?
