How about you contact the adviser and ask them? Not as a complaint but as a question.
Or read the policy document. I have one of paymentshields in front of me now:
Eligibility
You are eligible for this insurance if at the start date you:
- are aged 18 years of over but under 64,
- work at least 16 hours per week
- live in the UK
- are paying or about to pay a mortgage agreement
- are named on the mortgage agreement and
- are up to date wtih your monthly mortgage repayments, if you have an existing mortgage agreement.
For the purposes of this insurance "work" means any paid work of at least 16 hours per week. This includes self-employed work and statutory maternity but does not include temporary work
If you are self employed or you work on fixed term contracts you are eligible for this insurance but you should read the policy carefully to make sure it is suitable for your needs....
reading on to the self employed section it describes self employment and what that means (i wont paste that bit as it is common sense). it goes on to say that to claim you would need:
- satisfactory proof that you have involuntarily and permanently ceased trading because you could not find enough work to meet all your reasonable business and living expenses and have declared that to HMRC.
- satisfactory proof that you are registered as unemployed with the dept for work and pensions.
That criteria for self employed is very clear and contains no onerous terms. It is effectively cease paying class 2 NI and sign on. It is one of the reasons paymentshield have a good reputation. All have your difffering opinions on the subject.
I dont see differing opinions. Just surprise that you are looking to claim they dont cover self employed when they do and that the article on the site is not suitable for everyone.I think its wrong to supply information on site like this if it is no actuallty true or false.
I agree. Just as making a complaint using wrong information is wrong as well. Main difference is that an individual on a complaint, even when rejected, can suffer costs (of upto £1250 now) and it can hit their career path. I am an employer and I check the complaint history of prospective employees and it does affect whether I am employ them or not. Whilst upheld complaints are big turn off, rejected complaints can be as well if there is a number of them.I presume that all information relating to reclaiming PPI is checked by a skilled qualified advisor.
No. The forum is unmoderated and open discussion takes place.I always thought it was illegal to provide information and advice if it is not true. Perhaps I should contact the FSA.
The internet is not regulated by the FSA. It will have no interest in internet sites unless they are marketing financial products or giving advice in regulated areas without correct compliance requirements taking place.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
