Can I use this charger - what do the electrical figures mean?!

I've recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab2, it came with a very odd looking charger which is basically a plug with a male kettle lead part attached, then a section called a 'tarvel adapter' which is a block with female kettle socket with female USB socket. The travel adapter section slots onto the male kettle lead bit on the mains plug and then you plug a USB cable in - pics attached. The device can't be charged by USB though, it's mains only.
On the strange Samsung plug it says 2.5A 250V~
I also have an iphone with a much more normal charger which is basically a mains plug with female USB socket. On this it says:
Input: 100-240v~50/60 Hz 0.15A
Output: 5V (solid line on top with three dashes underneath) 1A
My questions are...
Can I use the Samsung USB lead in the iPhone plug charger? I know I can obviously just plug it in and see if it works but was worried about voltages and whether it might damage something.
Second question, the Samsung travel adapter has the female kettle socket on it so can I just plug an old fashioned kettle lead into this and then charge with the Samsung USB cable?
Thanks in advance for any input

First off I'd suggest not plugging in the Samsung adapter using a kettle lead (Might be ok but not worth the risk) ^_^
The Samsung plug gives the device 2.5amps at 250v (mains voltage!!)
The iPhone(?) charger only gives out 1amp at 5v (standard USB voltage)
Think the Samsung won't recognise the iPhone block as a charging device since their is not enough Voltage.Laters

Many thanks for the speedy reply, I didn't realise the figures on the plug related to the electricity they 'gave out' so at least I've learnt something today!0

Simple answer is NO the iphone charger will not charge the samsung.
The supplied adapter is perfectly fine to use. For the record, it's a figure of eight cable. Reason it will be in 2 parts, is they make the main unit a standard part to be supplied world wide, so whatever country they sell it in, they then supply the corresponding adapter, in this case a 3 pin uk plug, had it been europe, would have been a 2 pin. Helps cut down costsMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

This is incorrect information!
The Samsung chargers output is rated at 5V 2A and your Apple charger is only rated at 5V 1A. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Actually what he said was perfectly true based on the information the OP gave.
Actually it isn't, what was said is "The Samsung plug gives the device 2.5amps at 250v (mains voltage!!)" Thats the input voltage, if this was to give the device 250v, then the device would go pop.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

Thanks all - the main thing is that I shouldn't try and use the Apple charger and I shouldn't use an old fashioned kettle lead!
The only reason I wanted to use the Apple charger was so I had a charger upstairs and downstairs. With regards buying spare chargers, are the unbranded ones off ebay generally OK or do I need to buy a genuine Samsung one? If buying unbranded what electrical figures/numbers do I need to look out for?!0 -
Quick question, does the samsung plug actually say 2.5A
Only reason I ask is the travel adapter on Samsung website shows it as 2AMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
OP, just plug the two samsung bits together as in your third photograph, and there should never be a need to take them apart.
Then you can use either the samsung charger or the iphone charger to charge your new tablet, and you can also use either charger to charge your iphone.
If you want to buy unbranded, just buy any charger that has a USB socket on it and use the appropriate lead for the device being charged.0
