I've won an ebay item, collection in person only, knowing that I would be passing that way (about 40miles away) in the week so should have no trouble picking it up. The price is good (but that's why I bid) and would undoubtedly have been more if the seller had offered postage. I've paid via paypall and contacted the seller to arrange collection.

Now the seller has responded to say that he has accidentally posted it to me and would I pay the £22 p+p that had not previously been mentioned.

I fully intended to pick up and the petrol would have been maybe £2 from my intended route so now I would be £20 out of pocket making it not such the bargain I had hoped.

  • Well they can't force you to pay anything extra and 22 quid sounds steep, maybe it wasn't such an accident? I'd wait until it arrives to see how it was sent and whether it really cost £22.

*Accidentally posted it*? Really! And i wonder when the cashier told them it was £22 they never ever clicked in.

I think your being taken for a walk there my friend. You don't have to pay that fee at all, I assume they haven't provided proof they posted it already? They might just not and trying get more money from you.

I don't mean sound so negative but that seems excessive to say the least.

How can you "accidentally" post something, especially if the item was listed as collection only? At £22 for postage, I'm assuming that it was a large/heavy item?

He cannot force you to pay anymore than the original invoice, which is the price you paid for the item plus collection (i.e. no postage charge)

If you think that he really has paid £22 to post it to you and you feel that you really have got a bargain, you could always offer him, say half of the postage cost?
Personally, I wouldn't pay another penny, it sounds too suspicious for me, he's probably got a mate dropping it off for him!

I had a seller last week who 'accidentally' put free p&p - when he meant to put £15. This is impossible - as you have to tick a box for free p&p. I refused to pay.

He then 'accidentally' booked a courier - when he does not have a printer. I was very patient and agreed to wait as long as it took.

He then 'accidentally' did not put any packing in the item and its all smashed on arrival.

So ive 'accidentally' asked for refund - so i can move on from this farce. :rotfl:

Don't pay a penny - its not your fault.
  • i think another bidder must have asked about postage and the seller has got confused. I'll wait for it to arrive then make a decision
