Wow, 64 pages! You guys love slow cookers!
We've just got one, and my sister wants me to hide it up the loft as "you can only use it to make stew" (you haven't tasted my dad's stew; it is seriously vile). But this thread has persuaded me to have a go and make somethingMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

For years my Mums old slow cooker sat in a cupboard, never used but on reading this thread from before Christmas I not only put that slow cooker in use but also bought (on mse advice) the lovely 6.5 lt one from amazon. I have had my kitchen re fitted (been waiting 20 years for this) and have had to make sure I have worktop space for both slow cookers now - large one for main course (I often cook up a large quantity and freeze some) and Mums old Morphy Richards one for a pud like baked apples (yummy). I work a late shift and cooking this way helps a lot.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely recipes and for giving me the courage to try a new way (for me) of cooking. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

In my case it is not so much caramelise as "marmalize"

Thought you might like to try this recipe I got from a US website and did yesterday - was truly yum and my 1 year old daughter loved the potates - which really are the best part as you don't have to cook any other vegetables with this!
• 3 to 4 pounds chicken parts, bone-in (didn't have so used 4 x boneless)
• 4 to 6 potatoes, sliced about 1/4-inch thick
• 1 package leek soup mix (used chicken and Leek)
• 1 thinly sliced leek
• 1 cup water
• paprika (didn't use but guess it would add colour)
• Seasonings *
PREPARATION:
Layer potatoes in bottom of slow cooker/Crock Pot, top with leek, and then add chicken. (If you will have several layers of chicken, salt and pepper bottom layers as you put them in. Don't season top layer yet.) Mix leek soup with approximately 1/2 cup water; pour over all with the remainder of the water. Season top layer of chicken. At this point, sprinkle with paprika to give it color.
* If you like, add minced garlic and some fresh rosemary to season. I used fresh lemon thyme (from Tesco's 58p) and add a load of sprigs of that I removed before eating - it was yummy.0 -
That sounds great - will try tomorrow.0

Dont all shout at me at once - cos I only bought mine yesterday, but can I put frozen meat in it and all the other food stuff and will it cook okay, or should I defrost first???0
-
I've never done that, and the instruction book that came with mine says not to put frozen food in. I would defrost first, personally.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
